Thread starter jcs Start date Aug 21, Messages 8, I usually employ 3 springs on my Strat style stuff using D'Addardio 10's.

I have this Japan Strat with a non locking Floyd no locking nut and wonder if i should try more springs than 3? With 10's, how many springs do you folks use? What about 11's? GimmeShelter Member. Messages I put five on mine with 11s. I use Callaham hardware. I like a little float in the trem, though, so this provides a little extra tug to brings things back to where they were and keep things stable. If you're letting your bridge rest on the body, then maybe the extra springs are not so important.

I never use my trem, so it's 5 for me! SNick Member. I use 2 black springs on my AM Strat 2 point bridge. Boris Bubbanov Member. Messages 23, Even guitars with supposedly identical setups can have one more, one less spring, and maybe a little more or a little less tightness on the trem claw. With the same string guage, tuning, etc. Messages 34, For stability but needing a heavy hand add springs, reduce tension, and vice -versa. I prefer 3 springs in strats because it gives the trem bar a medium resistance.

I do have at least one with 3, none with 5. Georgiatec , RiverRatt and DirtySteve like this. I Don't use the whammy a lot on my strat either but I use heavy strings and five would make big bends more strenuous. I've gots them 'Raw Vintage' springs that have much less tension, so I can get away with using all five. They're on my BladeRunner tremolo and I can do crazy trem flutters with it still using all five springs. I like a lot of flex. I'm not running with big strings either. And I think it's harder for the strings to return to pitch if there's 5 springs. Jimi went out of tune a lot but my guitar stays in tune better when I play the same songs. DirtySteve , Oct 29, My guitar almost never goes out of tune with 3. MexicanMike likes this. For me, it helps to control the amount of tremelo I apply. And three always seem to return to pitch better. When I tried 5 in the past it seemed sometimes the bar needed an extra goose to return. Higher output pickups reveal more spring noise with 5 also Tuner Sandwich , Feb 6, Age: 73 Messages: 9, Two springs, one tremsetter, no waiting. The one on the right has 2 springs and a Tremsetter. I also have 2 Floyds with this spring setup. Then one Floyd like this. All the rest of my strats with 6 point bridges are like this unless decked.

Believer , Feb 6, I like a light touch. TIMB , Feb 6, Age: 57 Messages: 1, Two plus a tremsetter, set floating for a one tone bend up with the bar. Michael , Feb 7, You must log in or sign up to reply here. Show Ignored Content. Your name or email address: Do you already have an account?
